This week Fishbowl Records had the opportunity to talk with Frans Schuman of New Orleans, Louisiana who had a killer performance at The Shed TONIGHT! If you ever get a chance, listen to this Indie Folkster who has played and traveled around various parts of France and the United States. Read a little about him here and be sure to check him out on facebook!
Fishbowl Records: Thanks so much for talking with us today Frans! To start out, where are you from, what is your background, and where did you get your start in music?
Frans Schuman: I’m from New Orleans. I started out in Paris, France.
FR: How would you describe your music? Do you write your own songs?
FS: It’s myself with my guitar and a harmonica, so I would say it’s folk. I do write my songs.
FR: How long/far will you be traveling to play at The Shed this Thursday?
FS: From Tupelo.
FR: That’s a pretty long drive! You’ve traveled a lot though, internationally so it probably doesn’t seem so bad. What is the longest or farthest you have traveled to play? Where is your favorite place to play?
FS: I drove from Memphis to Nashville and back on Thursday. I like to play in bars.
FR: Well that makes the drive from Tupelo seem like nothing. Who are your favorite artists/bands?
FS: Peter Doherty, Bob Dylan.
FR: Do you have any albums, or any albums in the making? If so, what are they all about or what do we have to look forward to?
FS: I have one album self produced in 2009, and will start to record the next one hopefully within a couple of months.
FR: That’s awesome, we will look forward to hearing it. So what is your favorite part about music and performing?
FS: Playing live and writing.
FR: What do you do outside of performing?
FS: I work to finance my music.
FR: What can we expect from your performance at The Shed?
FS: Listen to original songs, something new.
FR: Well thanks so much for talking to us and we look forward to your performance at The Shed tonight!
