At Fishbowl Records, we receive hundreds of submissions a day… some of them good, some of them … not my favorite.
I decided to compile a short list of the top 5 bands that have ended up on my desk, in one way or another, over the past month.
Ch’ch’check it ouuuut.
When I first met Alex Seikaly he was the funky axe-man in the high-school band, Gypsy Disco. Nearly 10 years later he’s making beats under the alias Booty Thrill, and he’s killing it. Adding fresh elements to retro beats, Booty Thrill is sure to keep your head bobbin’ and waist thrustin’ all night long. Take a listen to his sophomore release, Thrillwave:
The Upset Victory
In Spring of 2008 I had the pleasure of partying on a yacht for 7 days straight, with band leader Stephen Campbell, and have been following the band ever since. Hailing from Cincinnati, OH, The Upset Victoryis about as polished of an act as they come. Warren Cooke (Formerly of Yellowcard) says the band sounds “like Thrice and Iron Maiden had a bastard child with Motley Crue,” and I couldn’t agree more. I’ve truly enjoyed watching this band evolve into the badass rock 5-some they are today.
This next band caught me by surprise. I thought they only listened to country music in Norman, OK? Check out my favorite song, “Johnny Appleseed”, from Caravact‘s self titled release (ZANZIBAR Records).
This New Orleans transplant, by way of Shreveport, Louisiana, has a sexy voice and an even sexier resume. Recorded at the notorious BLADE Studios, her debut LP, was produced by none other than Brady Blade himself. Check out my favorite track, Judgement Day, in the video below!
Christian Herring and True Blues
After receiving a random phone call from a man who claimed his 14 year old son and his 15 year old friend could jam, I had to refer to youtube to check his credibility. Sure enough…the man wasn’t lying. Christian Herring, a 15 year old from Alabama, can absolutely shred on the guitar. See below…
